About Karen

Karen Riha is one of the Co-Founders and President of the International Association of Security Awareness Professionals (IASAP), helping champion the way for this unique nonprofit, peer group to set forth their mission to build a trusted community for awareness teams to share and develop best practices to advance their mutual goal of increasing security awareness across the interconnected digital landscape.

Karen, a true technologist at heart was given a unique experience almost 20 years ago to create a security awareness poster.  She often refers to this life event “From Poster to Passion” as it was the launch of her career in cybersecurity awareness.  It was also that opportunity which allowed her to meet a Security Awareness Peer Group under sponsorship of the Computer Security Institute (CSI). When CSI discontinued the group in 2011, she along with several other members were determined to reorganize as an independent 501(c)6 non-profit association and continue to contribute to the security awareness professional community.

It is her continued passion of the subject matter, as well as her passion for people that have allowed her to build and enhance a successful awareness program throughout her career.   Her three keys to success are; make it engaging, keep it simple and make it personal. But most importantly her success is due to the group of peer professionals she has met throughout the interaction with this group.
