About John

Dr. John I. Meakin is an information and systems security specialist with 30 years experience. He retired as the Chief Security & Risk Officer at Burberry in 2017. He has since advised various businesses on cyber risk, including acting as interim Chief Information Security Officer at GlaxoSmithKline and CISO at Equiniti plc. 

Prior to Burberry, Dr. Meakin was Chief Security Officer for the luxury goods conglomerate Richemont International SA in Geneva. There, he oversaw physical, information and cyber security.

Previously, Dr. Meakin has built and led security functions in the Royal Bank of Scotland, Dresdner Bank and Standard Chartered Bank. He has also been Chief Information Security Officer of BP and Reuters. 

Dr. Meakin has a Ph.D. in experimental solid-state physics from Cambridge University. When not fighting the good fight for better cyber security he plays five-a-side footie, classical music and jazz.
