Professor Awais Rashid

Head of The Cyber Security Group at Bristol University

Oz Alashe, CEO of CybSafe is joined by Prof Awais Rashid, Head of the Cyber Security Group at Bristol University. Awais also leads the international effort on developing a Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK). They discuss some of the work Awais has done on the security of cyber-physical systems and internet of things devices. They also look at the balance between technology and people to create resillient infrastructures.

Discussion points:

  • Looking beyond behavioural change as a buzzworld and what the industry has learned about people and security.
  • Evolving challenges in cyber and how they might grow.
  • How IoT technology may be used [or misused] in the future.
  • Techniques to ensure resilience and continued operation of the infrastructure when under attack.

About Awais

Professor Awais Rashid’s research spans software engineering and cyber security. In particular, Professor Rashid investigates software modularity techniques that underpin adaptable, evolvable and resilient software. The subject ties in with Professor Rashid’s security research, which centres around developing tools and techniques capable of adapting to changing threat landscapes.

Professor Rashid is particularly interested in the security of cyber-physical systems, such as industrial control systems and Internet of Things. He is also a keen researcher of adversarial and non-adversarial cyber security behaviours.

  • leads projects as part of the UK Research Institute on Trustworthy Industrial Control Systems (RITICS
  • leads projects as part of the UK Research Institute on Science of Cyber Security (RISCS)
  • co-leads the Security and Safety theme within the UK Hub on Cyber Security of Internet of Things (PETRAS
  • leads an international effort on developing a Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK) to provide sound foundations for education and training programmes.
